Pioneer Library to reopen by appointment

LE GRAND — The Le Grand Pioneer Heritage Library has reopened, on an appointment-only basis. To schedule an appointment call Director Shelley Barron at 641-479-2122.

The Board of Trustees voted to re-open the library on a limited basis as of right now. How long this continues or when the library opens to regular visits will depend on the number of COVID-19 cases in Marshall and Tama counties and information from the CDC.

“The safety of our patrons, community and staff are paramount to the board at this time” Barron said.

Appointments will be available from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays. Appointments will be for 45 minutes to allow for cleaning between appointments and at the end of each day. Patrons can call 641-479-2122 any time from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to noon and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays or 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays to book a 45-minute appointment or they may email sbarron@legrand.lib.ia.us any time to book an appointment for the next day.

At this time, appointments will will be limited to one person or a family of three at one time. During their visit they may browse and check out books and DVDs or use the computer. To implement social distancing, only two computers will be available at a time. Visitors should keep in mind that if they come to the library without first making an appointment they might have to wait for an open appointment. Currently there is no seating for quiet study, research, reading or meetings.

Masks are strongly encouraged (but not required).

“We’d love it if you’d wear a mask” Barron said, “but they are not required. Staff will be wearing masks for your protection and ours.”

Library visitors will be expected to use hand sanitizer upon entering the library and during their visit. If books or DVDs are handled while browsing, the books will need to be placed on a designated table for quarantine and sanitation.

The library will continue to provide library materials pickup during the same hours listed for call in times. Patrons can contact the library by phone or email to request books or DVDs. Once materials are ready, a pickup time will be established and the bag of books and/or DVDs will be placed outside the library door on top of the book drop for pickup by the patron. Books should be returned at that same book drop. As always, patrons can use the library from home. The library website, www.legrand.lib.ia.us offers a wide range of digital resources, including books, audiobooks and databases. Patrons are encouraged to use the online catalog located on the website to browse for books or DVDS. If anyone has questions they can call 641-479-2122.
