7 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in district

T-R PHOTO BY ADAM SODDERS - Marshalltown School Board members and district administrators talked about the possibility of moving some property tax dollars away from instructional support programming at Tuesday’s board meeting. If some of those dollars were moved, income surtax money could be used to fill in the funding for instructional support. While there was discussion about the issue, no action was taken on it earlier this week.

As of noon on Friday, there have been seven cases of COVID-19 confirmed among Marshalltown Community School District students and employees since the first day of school on Sept. 8.

Total cases among students: five

Total cases among staff: two

MCSD officials believe it is crucial to keep the community informed regarding COVID-19 cases, while maintaining the privacy of students and employees. A report on the number of COVID-19 cases within the District will be shared weekly on Fridays. Each report will share the total number of new, confirmed cases among students and staff members throughout the district since the time of the previous report.

Students and staff who have confirmed cases of COVID-19 will follow district quarantine procedures.

The weekly COVID-19 reports will focus exclusively on new, confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the time of the previous report.

The reports do not include information regarding any individual person, position or title, classroom or activity, age group, grade level or school building. This is in order to maintain the privacy of students and employees.

Information about student and staff absences due to unconfirmed cases or symptoms, other illnesses or any other circumstances are not be included in the reports.

The district has developed a process of communicating COVID-19 and contact tracing information to students, their families and MCSD employees who may be directly impacted if a case is confirmed.

The COVID-19 information are shared with families and staff by email. They are also posted on this district website, as well as MCSD’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

The next report will be shared Sept. 25.
