More than 7,000 new COVID-19 cases in Iowa

Positive COVID-19 Cases by week — Marshall County

Iowa had a record high week of new COVID-19 cases.

According to USAfacts.org there have been 58 new cases of COVID-19 which contrasts with the Iowa Department of Public Health’s (IDPH) COVID-19 website which reported 70 new cases of COVID-19.

Both organizations reported three more deaths attributed to the virus this week, bringing the total of deaths in Marshall County to 32.

At least 1,125 Iowans have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March, according to USAfacts.org, while IDPH is reporting 1,135 overall deaths in Iowa from the virus.

Last week ended with 59,716 confirmed cases in Iowa and this week comes to a close with 67,151 cases — an increase of 7,435 in seven days.

New positive COVID-19 cases in Iowa by week

Grandview Heights in Marshalltown, which had an outbreak of 81 positive cases of COVID-19 has been removed from the Long Term Care outbreak list, according to the IDPH. The Iowa Veterans Home still has cases with 14 positive cases and 10 recovered.

• Latino – 15 percent

• Asian – 4 percent

• African American – 7 percent

• Native American – 1 percent

• Native Hawaiian – 1 percent

Percentage of cases according to sex:

• Male – 49 percent

• Female – 49 percent

Percentage of cases according to age groups:

• 18 to 40 – 49 percent

• 41 to 60 – 28 percent

• 61 to 80 – 13 percent

• 81 and older – 4 percent

• 18 and younger – 7 percent

Marshall County has the 12th highest number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Iowa. The counties will higher numbers include:

• Polk – 13,661

• Johnson – 4,229

• Woodbury – 4,214

• Black Hawk – 3,859

• Linn – 3,035

• Story – 2,665

• Dallas – 2,418

• Scott – 2,279

• Dubuque – 2,092

• Buena Vista – 1,833

• Pottawattamie – 1,682
