Second MCSD teacher arrested for sexual exploitation

Edgington

A teacher from the Marshalltown Community School District has been arrested for sexual exploitation of a student, marking the second arrest of a district employee in the last week.

Adam Eugene Edgington, 42, was arrested Wednesday after the Marshalltown Police Department received allegations Edgington had potentially inappropriately contacted and sexually exploited a 13-year-old juvenile within the school district. He has been charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee, a class D felony. Edgington has been released pending a court appearance on July 12, 2021.

Edgington was an English teacher at Miller Middle School.

“It is alleged Mr. Edgington engaged in a specific pattern of conduct and behavior that progressed with a minor for the purpose of soliciting inappropriate physical contact with said minor,” says a statement by the Marshalltown Police Department. “It is alleged Mr. Edgington committed these acts while employed as a teacher and that he knew the minor was under the age of eighteen.”

The Marshalltown Community School District released the following state regarding the situation:

“The Marshalltown Community School District is aware of the arrest of a staff member

announced today by the Marshalltown Police Department. The staff member is on administrative leave. Student safety is the number one priority for the Marshalltown CSD, and any accusation of a crime which may impact student safety is taken very seriously. This is an active investigation, and any questions should be directed toward the Marshalltown Police Department.”

Edgington has been placed on administrative leave.

The arrest comes exactly one week after Marshalltown Community School District employee Mark Edward Farris Esquivel, 26, of Marshalltown was arrested on allegations concerning potential exploitation and inappropriate contact with a 17-year-old juvenile.

The investigation involving Edgington is still active, and anyone with information about the crime should call the Marshalltown Police Department at 641-754-5725.
