Cruise-in to bring classic feel to 13th Street

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO The first 13th Street District cruise-in event in 2019 brought over 70 classic cars to the area.

A chance to enjoy classic cars, tunes and reminisce on the 1960s is on the fast lane to Marshalltown.

The 13th Street District is hosting a car Cruise-In family friendly event on Sept. 9 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“The idea was to bring something down to the 13th Street district that would be a very family friendly event, and people love to see classic cars,” 13th Street District board member Aimee Deimerly-Snyder said.

She felt the 13th Street District would be a neat area to show off classic cars. Their first go at the event in 2019 attracted over 70 cars to the event.

The Cruise-In is similar to a car show, but no awards are given out.

A variety of classic cars will line up in front of the Echo sculpture and DJ Cat Trax will have classic music playing through each car’s radio. Attendees are invited to enjoy grilled pork burgers and to bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the event.

Pork burgers will be sold to fundraise for the 13th Street District, going to development in the area and to help provide entertainment events.

No pre-entry or entry fee is required for anyone looking to bring a car to the event.

Those looking to show off their classic cars and trucks Cruisers should arrive between 4:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. from the north at Summit Road or from State Street. Cruisers arriving from Summit Street should park on the west side of 13th Street while cruisers coming from the south should park on the east side.

The 13th Street District will accept goodwill donations from cruisers and will be directed to a registration table to sign up for door prizes.

Deimerly-Snyder said she is most looking forward to seeing a variety of cars and hopes for similar success the 2019 event had.

“Just some great tunes, great food and cool cars,” she said.
