Veterans honored with quilts

Cheryl Pansergrau awards her son Scott Pansegrau of Toledo a Quilt of Valorl. Pansergrau spent seven years in the US Marines during Operation Iraq Freedom and Enduring Freedom. He did two tours in Iraq as a crew chief with Black Hawk helicopters rescuing people from Bagdad. He is still serving with the Iowa National Guard and has received numerous medals and awards for his accomplishments.

Twelve men and one woman were awarded Quilts of Valor from the Central Iowa Quilt Sew-ciety members. The event was held at the Grace church.

President Marilyn Kidd welcomed the guests, Marshalltown combined Legion and VFW, and Pastor Bob Kosbau. Veterans histories were read by guild members Gloria DeBower and Linda Cooper. A video from Navy veteran Jerri Sailor was shown to the large attendance.

Guild members presenting quilts were: Sue Smith, Charlene Hulin, Terry Shepard, Pam Blake, Sarah Lage, Deb Kerr, Denise Starits, Sue Lawyer, Cheryl Pansegrau and Cheryl Kupka. Marvis Drew organized the event. CIQS have awarded more than 315 quilts since 2015.
