Halloween happenings in Marshalltown

T-R FILE PHOTO All kinds of monsters, creatures and more will be out and about around Marshalltown this week as several local Halloween events are on the schedule.

Halloween has arrived in Marshalltown with a packed schedule of spooky events throughout the week. Listed below is a compilation of parties, trick-or-treating and more on the schedule in Marshalltown.

Costume parade at the library, Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The fun begins on the library lawn for Halloween storytime, followed by an optional costume parade around the outside of the library building to collect treats. Kids will receive a free book to keep. The program is free, and no registration is required.

Haunt the Block, Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Over 20 local businesses in downtown Marshalltown will be open for trick-or-treating. Everyone is encouraged to dress up in costume and tour Marshalltown’s central business district for goodies. Pumpkin Jamboree, Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Marshalltown Community College is hosting its own Halloween celebration open to the public at the Babe Harder Gym on Marshalltown Community College’s campus featuring carnival games, pumpkin decorating, cookie decorating, bingo, a storyteller and more.

Mysfit Farm’s Haunted Barn, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. A family-run haunted barn experience, with a $5 entry fee donated to the Marshalltown Animal Rescue League. Mysfit Farm’s Haunted Barn is located at 1937 Underwood Ave. in Marshalltown.

Fall Fun Indoor Carnival, Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Restore Church is hosting an indoor carnival filled with family fun and complete with games, activities and prizes. The event is in the Restored Ballroom at The Tallcorn at 2 N. 2nd Avenue in Marshalltown.

Trunk or Treat at St. Francis, Sunday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. St. Francis Catholic School is hosting their own trunk-or-treat event at the St. Henry Church parking lot. Kids go from car to car and adults hand out treats from the trunk or tailgate of their vehicle.

Trunk or Treat at Journey Church, Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Journey Church’s annual trunk-or-treat event is back with tons of candy, food trucks, inflatables, mini golf, a hay ride and a petting zoo.

Public Safety Trunk or Treat, Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Marshalltown Police Department, Marshalltown Fire Department, Marshall County’s Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County 911, Marshall County Emergency Management and UnityPoint Ambulance are all teaming up for a trunk or treat event at the Marshalltown Police and Fire Department parking lot. Treats, hot dogs and water will all be provided at the event.

Halloween Fall Party, Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Big House Ministries is hosting their annual neighborhood Halloween/Fall Party at 110 N. 2nd St. with games, inflatables, hot cocoa, cider and popcorn.
