Man charged in State Center shots fired incident

An Eagle Grove man was charged Saturday in conjunction with a shots fired incident near the 400 block of Second Avenue Northeast in State Center that occured on March 19, State Center Police Department Chief Jon Thomas announced.

Noe Hernandez Espino was charged with one count of reckless use of a firearm and one count of intimidation with a dangerous weapon. He cooperated and surrendered himself Saturday morning to authorities after being identified, Thomas said in the release.

At the time of the incident, Thomas said no damage to property or persons in the area was reported.

Shell casings had been found in the area, which would make the reckless use of a firearm charge a misdemeanor. In the Iowa penal code, intimidation with a dangerous weapon is classified as either a class “C” or “D” felony, depending on circumstances pertaining to the severity of the situation.

Thomas cited help from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and the Eagle Grove Police department as well as the general public in carrying out the search and finding the suspect.
