A huge storm cloud formation was visible on the evening of Tuesday, June 28th as it was forming over Grundy County. This view however was made from near Albion, IA in Marshall County, many mile away. This isolated storm was what weather service folks call a pop-up storm cell, acombination of just the right amount of rising warm air into a slightly colder air mass high above the ground. The mixing of these elements fed upon itself to create a massive cumulus system. Lightning was not visible from the photographer’s viewpoint. Heavy rain was likely to have been present for the Grundy County folks directly under this storm. Updrafts currents and close by downdrafts seem to comb the cloud vapors into string-like patterns.
