Marshalltown man sentenced for assault, weapons and incendiary device offenses

On March 20, Judge Amy Moore sentenced Trenton Brekke, age 36, of Marshalltown for domestic abuse assault while using or displaying a dangerous weapon, prohibited person in possession of an offensive weapon, possession of explosive or incendiary materials or devices with intent to commit a public offense, and possession of explosives without a license or permit. Brekke had entered pleas of guilty to the offenses on Feb. 6.

Judge Amy Moore ordered the sentences for each offense to run consecutively to one another in sentencing Brekke to a total of 27 years in prison, and he was also ordered to pay fines for each offense and victim restitution.

On Feb. 14, 2022, law enforcement responded to a report of a disturbance in Marshalltown and discovered that Brekke had threatened to use an explosive device, which was located and taken by law enforcement, against himself and a victim.

This matter was investigated by the Marshalltown Police Department and prosecuted by the Marshall County Attorney’s Office.
