Woman charged with robbery, assault

Cain

A Marshalltown woman was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with an investigation into an incident of theft and assault that began two months ago.

On Aug. 18, law enforcement officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of North 2nd Street to investigate a reported assault and theft. The reporting party in this case is a 22-year-old Marshalltown man. Following an investigation, arrest warrants were issued for 34-year-old Natasha Lee Cain, who has been charged with assault causing bodily injury, third degree criminal mischief, obstructing emergency communications, second degree robbery and third degree theft.

A criminal complaint alleged that Cain assaulted the victim, causing bruising and swelling to the victim’s face in several locations, took the victim’s cell phone, which was valued between $750 and $1,500, while the victim was being assaulted by an accomplice, knocked the cell phone out of the victim’s hand and fled the scene with the accomplice. Cain then allegedly threw the phone in the roadway in the 200 block of North 2nd Avenue.

“The defendant had also committed an assault upon another victim on scene just before taking the cell phone,” the complaint reads.

Cain has been processed and remains in custody at the Marshall County Jail.
