MFD responds to residential fire on South 7th Avenue
On Tuesday morning at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Marshalltown Fire Department was summoned to 1802 S. 7th Ave. for an automatic fire alarm. As more information became known, the fire alarm was upgraded to a working fire assignment.
Upon arrival, the fire department found a single-story house with a working basement fire. Fire crews made an interior fire attack through the garage and quickly brought the fire under control. The fire originated in a utility closet on the basement level which contained the water heater and furnace. The fire was contained to the area of origin. The home sustained minor smoke damage throughout.
The smoke detectors first alerted the homeowner’s monitoring company to the problem who then called the Marshall County 911. There was no one home at the time of the fire.
Firefighters were at the scene for approximately 90 minutes, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The Marshalltown Police Department, Alliant Energy, and UnityPoint EMS assisted at the scene.
