Hunting waterfowl in South Africa program to be presented at Izaak Walton League
Sam Dixon, a Laurel native, is an avid waterfowl hunter. One of his recent adventures from May, 2024 was to journey to South Africa to hunt ducks and geese.
Dixon will present a program this Wednesday night, Sept. 11, to show images and discuss the adventure of wing shooting ducks in the Southern Hemisphere.
His presentation will follow the annual Ikes membership appreciation potluck supper at 6 p.m. at the Ikes Clubhouse, 2601 Smith Ave. This location is two miles south of Iowa Avenue on the southeast side of Marshalltown.
Sam Dixon is shown holding a very common species he was able to take, a Yellow-billed Duck. His time in South Africa allowed other waterfowl to be taken as well as a few plains game animals. Dixon will talk about his adventure and answer questions about the experience of waterfowl hunting. The program is open to the public who wish to learn more about the process and other things to know for anyone interested in an Africa waterfowl safari. Dixon used the professional services of Matt Maartens Safaris.
