Marshalltown man charged with burglary for allegedly stealing wiring from former PHC building

Lamonto

A local man is facing several charges including felony burglary after the Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) responded to a report of a “possible fight” involving multiple individuals on Monday night.

According to a press release, the MPD responded to a disturbance call at 412 E. Church St., the former Primary Health Care building, over a report of the aforementioned fight and an allegation that a firearm was displayed during the dispute.

No injuries were reported at the time, and no arrests were immediately made. As the investigation continued, Adelfio Fredrick Lamonto Jr., age 49, of Marshalltown was arrested and charged with third degree burglary, second degree criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance — marijuana and two counts of trespass.

A criminal complaint alleges that Lamonto was involved in cutting and removing the wiring in the building, which required the owner to hire an electrician and pay for new materials to replace the materials that were still in “perfect operational condition.”

“The defendant entered into a building knowing he had no right to enter the structure and committed a theft of wiring belonging to the building and its property owner. The structure’s basement door had been tampered with to gain access into it,” the complaint reads.

The defendant’s bond has been set at $10,000 cash only, and an initial appearance is scheduled for Sept. 30 at 9:30 a.m.

Starting at $4.38/week.
