Jeanne LaVonne Smith, 91

Funeral services for Jeanne LaVonne Smith, 91, of Marshalltown, IA, were held Monday, June 20, 2016, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jennifer Daniel officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers were all of Jeanne’s grandchildren.

Along with her family and friends, groups attending were from Sec. Central Chapter #670ES, Bickford Assisted Living and Foster Grandparent Program.

Mitchell Family Funeral Home was entrusted with the care of Jeanne and her family.

Jeanne LaVonne Smith, 91

Jeanne LaVonne Smith, 91, of Bickford Assisted Living, passed away Saturday morning, June 18, 2016, under the loving care of the staff of Bickford and the staff of Hospice. Services will be held at Mitchell Family Funeral Home on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour before the service time.

Jeanne was born July 31, 1924 in Jewell, Iowa to Earl and Bernice (Hatfield) Walker. Jeanne and her family moved to Ireton, where Jeanne graduated from Ireton High School in 1941 with basketball honors, lettering all four years. On April 9, 1943, she married Wayne M. Smith and they later divorced. Four sons were born to this union, Gregory (Nuala), Kevin (Deb), Steve (Cheryl) and Dennis (Barb). Jeanne retired after 25 years working at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star, a member of the Women’s Order of Moose and volunteered with the Foster Grandparent program at Anson Elementary School. “Grandma Jeanne” loved her time with the youngsters and especially enjoyed reading to them. Jeanne was an avid Hawkeye fan and loved to cook. Jeanne entered assisted living in 2012 and enjoyed her time with other seniors.

Left to cherish her memory along with her children are her grandchildren, Casey (Brenda), Katie (Mike), Joseph (Jenn), Daniel (Risa), Gage (Cass), Joshua, Sarah, Trina and her 12 great grandchildren, O’Sheen, Ailish, Eamon, Grainne, Quinlan, Ethan, Aidan, Tom, Cameron, Lukas, Zachary and Spencer.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her siblings, Virginia, Grover and Jerry and a grandson, Sean.
