Edward August Havelka, 91

Edward August Havelka, 91, beloved father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend, died peacefully in Toledo, Iowa on December 15, 2016. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Anderson Funeral Home, 405 W. Main St., Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. Vigil Service, Monday, December 19, 2016, at Anderson Funeral Home, 405 W. Main St., Marshalltown. Ed was born October 27, 1925, in Dodge, Nebraska. His family then moved to Iowa in 1939, settling on a farm, north of Green Mountain. Ed farmed with his father before enlisting in the army, in which he served in World War ll, stationed in various places in Southeast Asia.

He married the love of his life, Melissa Pegg on June 11, 1950, in Marshalltown, Iowa. Together they raised two children, Ann and Bill, and were later blessed with four grandchildren. Years later, he met Betty, his best friend, in which they spent many years together.

Ed was a member of the American legion, multiple clubs and actively involved throughout the community. He will be forever be remembered by all for his hard-working, caring, energetic and fun-loving spirit.

Preceded in death by his wife, Melissa; his infant sister, Elizabeth; his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Lambert Chudomelka; brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Rose Havelka.

Survivors: daughter, Ann (Dan) Lavicky, of Lincoln, Nebraska; son, Bill (Linda) Havelka, of Marshalltown. Best friend and companion, Betty Altmaier, of Toledo, Iowa; Grandchildren: Kate (Matt) Payne, Brent (Alyssa) Havelka, Shelby Lavicky, Emily (Dillon) Keppler. Brother, Anthony (Barbara) Havelka, Verona, Missouri, many nieces and nephews and Betty’s caring family.
