Funeral services for Doris will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:30 until 1:00. Doris Westerfield was born on February 27, 1918, in Gilman to Oscar and Emma Thompson Westerfield. She attended high school in Gilman. On March 20, 1936, Doris was united in marriage to Vernon Thompson in Le Grand. They had resided together in Le Grand at the house that Vernon had built. Doris had been a hot lunch cook for Le Grand Schools for 13 years as well as baby sat for close to twenty families. She was a member of the Stavanger Church and enjoyed cooking, babysitting and spending time with her family.

Doris is survived by her children: Bev (Chuck) Grove, of Marshalltown, and Barb (Dave) Sawyer, of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Denise Phipps, David (Tracy) Grove, Darla Grove, Trisha (Bud) Miller, Tracie Sawyer and Teresa (Mike) Furrow. Great grandchildren: Jessica (Josh), Emily, Jacob (Morgan), Matt, Ashleigh, Haley, Nick, Tyler (Breanna), Paige and Brooke and she always loved Dylan Maas as a significant part of her family. She is also survived by seven great great grandchildren.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband Vernon; parents Oscar and Emma as well as six siblings.
