Max LeRoy Crandall, 77

Max LeRoy Crandall, 77, of Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at his home and under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home.

Memorial services for Max will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. Max Crandall was born on January 26, 1940, in Wadena, Iowa, to Luther and Naomi Gage Crandall. He graduated from Wadena High School in 1958. Max served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp until 1963. On April 3, 1964, Max was united in marriage to Marjean Kucera at Christ United Presbyterian Church in Oelwein, Iowa. He worked many years in construction and retired in 2004 from the Newton Correctional Facility in Newton, Iowa. Max enjoyed his retirement years attending his grandchildren’s activities and becoming an avid golfer. He loved winning those dimes and quarters from his golfing buddies. Max and Marge were fortunate to spend the last 12 winters in Texas and Alabama where he shot a hole in one 3 years ago.

Max is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marge. Children: David (Angie) Crandall, of Urbandale, and Mark (Lisa) Crandall, of Ankeny. He is also survived by his grandchildren Josh, Nikki, Kelli and Ryan as well as his brother, Robert (Toby) Crandall, of Eagle Grove, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Max is preceded in death by his parents Luther and Naomi; daughter in infancy, Caroline and brothers Paul and Jim.
