Valentine Chester Davenport Jr., 83, of Tama, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Traditional Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement with Homer Bear Jr. as speaker. A traditional wake was held Tuesday evening at the Bear Clan Ceremonial Building on Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.
Chester is survived by best friend, Verna Davenport; his children: Doreen Roberts, Richard Birkey (Stephanie), Eunice Davenport, Andrea Davenport, Carla Davenport, Lyle Davenport, Jill Davenport, Ty Davenport (Judy), Elke Davenport, Virgil Lasley (Lori), Eric Kapayou (Janet), Mary Youngbear, Craig Youngbear (Mai), Nina Youngbear, Kristina Youngbear (Tom), George Youngbear III, Dallas Poweshiek and Delmer Whitebreast (Staphne); Siblings: Dean Whitebreast (Hattie), Gayle Walker (Aaron) and Leonard Johnson (Barbara) and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand children and great grand children.
