AnnaMae Henry, 91

AnnaMae Henry, age 91of Marshalltown, passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, March 29th, at the Iowa River Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 3rd, at the Hope United Methodist Church with Pastor Nan Smith officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born July 24th, 1926, on a farm in Howard County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Elzia and Effie (Stickley) Manwiller. As a child, her family moved to Cedar Rapids. She attended Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids and worked for J.C. Penney’s as a cashier in the tube system which was later in all J.C. Penney stores. On July 2nd, 1944, she was united in marriage to Don Albert Henry, Sr., who was serving our country honorably in the U.S. Navy. Following WWII, he worked for Cities Service Oil Co. and was transferred to Des Moines, Chariton, St. Paul, MN. and then back to Des Moines. AnnaMae volunteered at Mercy Hospital delivering flowers and was a longtime Sunday school teacher. She was a supervisor for the Wednesday Youth Group at Epworth Methodist Church, a Den Mother for Cub Scouts for 10 years and worked 12 years for Dr. Bates before moving to Marshalltown in 1978. Alongside her husband and son, Don Jr., they owned and operated Henry Oil in Marshalltown. Mrs. Henry was a faithful member of the Hope United Methodist Church, the Lady Elks, Daughters of the Nile, Four Stack APD Veterans Corporation, and enjoyed her time volunteering at the hospital auxiliary in Marshalltown, playing cards with her card club, being around people and the precious time spent with her family. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Don A. Henry, Jr (DyAnne) of Marshalltown and David (Nancy) of Littleton, CO, her grandchildren- Derek (Jenny) Henry, Damon Henry, Lauren Henry, Erica Henry, Sylvia Huml and two step grandchildren, twins Brooks and Jessica Brown. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren Devyn, Drew and Hadley as well as many nieces and nephews. In death, AnnaMae rejoined her beloved husband Don who passed away in 2000, her parents, and siblings: Floyd, Norville, Arnold, Alpha, Thays, and Camilla.
