Diane Kay Bearden, 66

Diane Bearden, 66, of Waverly, Iowa, formerly of Marshalltown, died Saturday, February 24 at Waverly Medical Center, from complications due to emphysema.

She was born May 8, 1951, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin and Shirley (Thorpe) Stackhouse. She attended and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1969. Later on she had two children; Jason (Sara) Groomes, of Waverly, and Brad (Farrah) Groomes, of Cedar Rapids. She worked various cashier’s jobs in and around the Marshalltown area. On August 2, 1997, she married Steven Bearden, in Marshalltown. Shortly thereafter, they moved to North Carolina, eventually settling in Apex. In February of 2017, she returned to Iowa to be closer to her family. She was an avid fan of the Food Network and was a very good cook in her younger days, especially her homemade caramel corn.

She is survived by her sons, Jason and Brad and two step-daughters, Heather and Jennifer. She also is survived by six grandchildren; Devin, Wesley, Madolyn, Caleb, Jasper and Hannah. She’s also survived by her brother David, of Marion, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Steven; and brothers, William and Chris. Also preceded by a nephew, Curtis and a great-nephew, Kevin Jr.

A celebration of her life will be held the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 10. Memorials can be directed to the family.
