She was preceded in death by her parents, Chuck and Eleanor Ward, and is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Michael Ralph Gruver, of Lake in the Hills, IL, and her three children: Matthew Wilhelmi (grandchildren Keira and Mason), Rachel Wilhelmi and Stephen Gruver. She is also survived by her brothers David (Michele) Ward and Curtis (Marcia) Ward as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Born on June 17, 1955, in Waterloo, IA, Mardi grew up in nearby Independence where she developed a love of horses and competitive swimming. She excelled in voice, as did her mother, which included singing in her church choir and solo work.

Mardi graduated in 1977 from Northern Illinois University in Marketing and worked diligently in her field throughout her life.

Mardi met her devoted husband Michael at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, IL, with marriage May 25, 1996, in Palatine, IL. Their son Stephen was born in October 1997. She was active in the church which included singing and working with children, Mardi loved the Lord. She found her religious calling as a mentor, Bible study leader and true friend many years ago, and cultivated her relationships with unconditional acceptance and love. Her passion was to help lead people to a better understanding and deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Although she is sorely missed, we are confident that she is now delighting in the presence of her Savior.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28, at 10:00 a.m. at Watershed Church in Elgin, IL.
