Roger Charles Konicek, 75

Roger Charles Konicek, 75, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Premier Estates of Toledo under the care of Hospice Compassus. As per Roger’s wishes there will be no public services.

Roger was born on May 28, 1942, in Tama, Iowa, the son of Fred and Mildred (Papez) Konicek.

He graduated from Toledo High School.

On January 4, 1964, he was united in marriage to Janice Kriegel at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Roger owned and operated the DX Gas Station in Tama for nine years, then worked at Donaldson Company in Grinnell and part time at Sandhill Auto Salvage in Tama, retiring thirteen years ago. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Roger liked NASCAR Racing and had driven stock cars in his younger years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Roger loved history and gardening and was a pretty good cook. He played Harmonica and loved music.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Janice, of Tama; two children, Cam (Christy) Konicek, of Las Vegas, NV, and Kris Konicek, of Ramsey, MN; three grandchildren: Josh (Gabriella) Konicek, Kyle (Samantha) Konicek, and Kaiyah Goldsmith; two great-grandsons, Krew and Karter Konicek; two siblings, Colleen (Richard) Steveson, of Toledo, and Larry (Judy) Konicek, of Garwin; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and one sister, Kathleen Crawford.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
