Ronald Glenn Patton was born on July 9, 1937, in Fullerton, Nebraska; he was the son of Lee Roy and Fanny Mae (Reece) Patton. He attended school in the Fullerton Community School District graduating with the class of 1954. He then attended University of Nebraska in Lincoln, receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Ron served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1955 until 1957. During that time he served as a Radio Operator in Korea. On July 23, 1960, Ron was united in marriage to the love of his life, Donna Erdmann, in Barneston, Nebraska. They resided in Lincoln, Nebraska, until moving to Marshalltown in 1963, where Ron worked for Fisher Control until his retirement in 1995 after 35 years of faithful service. He had been a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and loved his Tuesday morning men’s bible study and Thursday night bible study. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, pheasant hunting, woodworking, stained glass, working in the yard and traveling. He loved watching his Cubs play and also the Cornhuskers (especially when they played the Hawkeyes!) GO BIG RED! Ron was also passionate about helping the less fortunate in his volunteer work at the House of Compassion and the Emergency Food Box. While volunteering at the Soup Kitchen, he gifted a gentleman the coat off his back so the man didn’t have to go out in the cold without a coat. His true passion in life, however, was spending time with his grandchildren. He loved them with all his heart.
Left to cherish Ron’s memory is his wife of 57 years, Donna, of Marshalltown; children: Craig Patton, of Marshalltown, Iowa, Laurie Kramer, of Grinnell, Iowa, Susan (Tom) Usgaard, of Morton, Illinois, and Meredith (Dan) Dirks, of Coralville, Iowa; grandchildren: Anna Mairs, Aimee (John) Good, Shawn Kramer, Sarah Dirks, Lily Dirks, Joseph Usgaard and Raymond Usgaard; great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Zoey; siblings, Dale (Reve) Patton, Donna Veitch and Lila Rittenhouse.
In death Ron rejoins his parents, Lee Roy and Fannie Patton; brother Elmer Patton; sister-in-law Evelyn Patton and brothers-in-law Robert Veitch and Freeman Rittenhouse.
