Maureen Judy Halverson, 77

Maureen Judy Halverson, 77, of Gladbrook, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at her home after a brief illness under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice with her family at her side.

Funeral services for Judy will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church in Gladbrook. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 16 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later time. Judy Swiggum was born on October 2, 1940, in Utica Township in Crawford County Wisconsin to Morris and Ruth Stevenson Swiggum. On June 8, 1957, she was united in marriage to Roger Halverson at Kickapoo Lutheran Church in Wisconsin. Judy had worked for Tekippe’s Grocery Store in Gladbrook as well as Uptown Lounge and Gladbrook Bowl as a cook. She retired as a cook from Gladbrook Reinbeck schools. Judy was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church Ladies Club. She enjoyed polka music; especially Mollie B and Barefoot Becky. Judy also liked gardening, flowers, playing cards, reading and was the best cook around. Above all else, she enjoyed the time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her children: Kim Thompson, of Gladbrook, Julie (Ron) Benda, of Union Grove Lake, Ron (Dondee) Halverson, of Cherokee, Todd (Kristi) Halverson, of Gladbrook, and Jeff Halverson, of Gladbrook. Grandchildren: Jodi (Brad Foulk) Fogt, Bethany (Blair) Murty, Tanner (Hannah) Thompson, Katy Thompson (Harley Barnes), Jason (Debbie) Halverson, Andrea (Dan) Raffield, Jamie Benda, Jessica (Scott) Bohnenkamp, Tyler (Hilary Adkins) Halverson, Blake Halverson, Kylee Halverson, Lucas Halverson and Ashlee Halverson. Great grandchildren: Mason and Rylan Fogt, Cooper and Baylee Murty, Ethan and Wyatt Halverson, Emily Else, Aiden, Grayson and McKenna Raffield, Brayden and Brooklyn Bohnenkamp. She is also survived by her siblings: Lona (Jim) Connor, Sanford (Joan) Swiggum and Mark and Bonnie Olson as well as her brother and sisters in law: Monica Swiggum, Helen Beatty, Berniece Kramer, Margaret Halverson, Mary Jane Yearous and Rollie and Mayda Halverson as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Roger as well as her parents, Morris and Ruth; brothers, Morris “Mick,” Steve and Danny Swiggum and brothers and sisters in law: Pam Swiggum, Alvin and Thelma Halverson, Dale Beatty, Bill Kramer, Harold Halverson and Bo Yearous and nephews, Eric Halverson, Dale Connor and Jim Halverson.
