Paul Appelgate, 69
Paul Appelgate, 69, of Burnsville, MN, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on March 21, 1949, in Marshalltown, IA and raised in rural Laurel, Green Mountain and Garwin, IA. Paul bravely served his country in Vietnam where he was injured and subsequently received two Purple Heart medals. After his honorable discharge, Paul, who never knew a stranger, became a successful salesman, most recently selling rare coins and precious metals.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Frank Eugene Appelgate.
Paul was survived by his mother, Charlotte Rowden Appelgate, of Marshalltown, who joined Paul in eternity one week later.
Surviving is older brother Craig (Mary) Appelgate, of California; younger brother Brian (Janice) Appelgate, of Green Mountain and baby sister Kay Marie (Ron) Riggins, of Ankeny. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, who loved their uncle and his antics: Jonathan, David, Christina, Moriah, Leah, Emily, Luke, Christopher and Amanda; Aunt Pat Booth, Aunt Mildred Rowden, many cousins, dear friends Carline Malaney, of Minnesota and Kevin Kramm, of Florida; and his beloved dog companion Beau.
