Earnest “Al” Stephens, 76

Earnest “Al” Stephens, 76, a longtime resident of Le Grand, Iowa passed away on May 24, 2019 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama.

A visitation for Al will be held at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 28 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Le Grand Friends Church in Le Grand. Earnest Allen Stephens was born on September 2, 1942 to parents Spencer and Lois (Hohn) Stephens in Diagonal, Iowa. He graduated from Creston High School. On March 04, 1962 Al was united in marriage to his wife Patricia “Pat” (Hartman) at the small country church in Lorimor, Iowa. The two raised four children together. They were longtime residents of Le Grand.

In his free time, you might find Al at auctions, out fishing, playing cribbage or various other card games, riding motorcycles, making trips to the casino, eating ice cream, or being a handyman around the house. He spent much of his working years driving a truck and he belonged to the Teamsters Union.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Tammy (Terry) Ross, Peggy (Bruce Binion) Platt, Mark (Rochelle) Stephens, and Misty Hoefs; 10 grandchildren Darrin (Kate) Ross, Blake Ross, Nathan (Bekah) Ross, Tyler (Nichole) Platt, Kayla Platt, Courtney Stephens, Samantha Stephens, Cassandra Hoefs, Caitlin (Dan) Chaussee, and Kaden Hoefs; 4 great- grandchildren Lyla Ross, Hazel Ross, Jayce Hunter, and Natalie Platt; siblings Evelyn Fluckey, Irene (Morris) Conklin, Carol Johnson, Larraine (Dick) Hartman, Jane Scott.

In death, he rejoins his loving wife Pat; Parents Spencer and Lois Stephens; 3 grandchildren Dustin Ross, Ryan Platt and Mason Stephens; brother Ivan Stephens; son-in-law Craig Hoefs; and two brothers-in-law Elmer Johnson and Kenneth Fluckey.
