A Mass of Christian Burial for Gwen will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held one hour prior, starting at 9:00 a.m. also at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either St Mary Catholic Church, REM of Marshalltown or to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Gwendolyn Hays was born on December 22, 1927 in Kahoka, Missouri to Glenn and June Lucas Hays. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1945. On April 24, 1946, Gwen was united in marriage to Urban Lang at St Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Gwen was a farm/house wife and also had worked for Younkers for 8 years. In her earlier years, Gwen enjoyed yard work, gardening and just liked to be outside. She also enjoyed canning and cooking, especially on holidays and Sundays, and was famous for her fried chicken. Gwen also liked shopping, riding her bike down Marion Street and going on trips to Storm Lake. More recently, Gwen liked to go mall walking, drink coffee with her friends and watch television. Above all else, Gwen enjoyed the family celebrations and any other occasions where she was able to spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Gwen is survived by her five children: Greg (Judie) Lang of Marshalltown and their children: Scott (Amy) Lang and their daughter Natalie Lang; and Jeff (Alyssa) Lang and their daughters Nicole (Jake Oswald) Lang and Ashley Lang. Steve (Julie) Lang of Marshalltown and their children: Josh (Cathy) Lang and their children Jillian, Brody and Howie Lang; Joey (Wendy) Lang and their children Elizabeth, Noah and Oliver Lang; and Brooke Lang. Tom (Deb) Lang of Oskaloosa and their children Greg (Erin) McMorran and their children Noah and Claire McMorran; Wendy Elliott and her son Ty Jacob Kirby; Allison (Jon) Vial and her sons Graham and Jack Vial; Emily (Kristopher Rollins) Lang and their daughter Ruby Rollins; and Kayla (Blake) Sandquist and their sons Grayson and Hudson Sandquist. Jody (Patrick) Kelly of Virginia Beach, Virginia and their children Megan (Randy) Ljames and their children Brennan and Olivia; and Elizabeth Kelly and her son Easton. Lisa (Kevin Schwartz) Lang of Marshalltown and their children Tyler (Danielle) Lang-Mauseth and their daughter Gwendolyn Lang-Mauseth; and Adam Mauseth and his daughters Lily and Mila Mauseth. Gwen is also survived by her brother Kenneth Hays of Bella Vista, Arkansas.

Gwen is preceded in death by her husband Urban and parents Glenn and June.
