Michael L. Miller, 74

Michael L. Miller, 74, of Marshalltown, joined the Lord on June 22, 2019, after a lengthy illness. His death came peacefully with his loving wife, daughter and sister at his side at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

A Celebration-of-Life will be held by the family on Monday, July 8, 2019, from 5-7pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. A graveside memorial service will be held at Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Born on January 23, 1945, in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Garland E. and Ruth Maxine (Brautigan) Miller. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Purdue, he was a member of Acacia Fraternity. He married the love of his life, Brenda Sue Richardson, on February 25, 1967, in Indianapolis.

The young couple moved to Marshalltown where he began employment with Fisher Controls. On March 15, 1971, their daughter Lisa Marie was born. Michael was a dedicated part of Fisher Controls as a Manufacturing Engineer for 33 years until retirement in 2000.

Michael was a man of many interests and had a passion for golf. He was a 50-year member of Elmwood Country Club (winning the 1992 Member/Guest Tournament), playing with the “Garbage Gang” and the “Four Mikes.” He was a charter member and past president of the Purdue Alumni Club of Central Iowa and was recipient of the Purdue Pride Award in 2011. Michael also enjoyed fly-fishing, photography, reading, playing pool, biking, coin-collecting and received his pilot’s license. He and Brenda were life-long Indy 500 fans and attended many races. Michael even rode three laps on the Indy track with a professional driver, reaching speeds over 200 MPH. He also served as a Lego League Coach for many years. Time with his family was most precious and the trips to Destin, Florida and Hawaii were amongst his favorites. He was also a man of faith, calling First Presbyterian Church his church home and serving in the capacities of Elder and Deacon.

Left to cherish his memory is Brenda, his loving wife of 52 years; daughter Lisa Miller; sister Linda Farrell; sister-in-law Voleetta (Dwight) Whitis; brother-in-law Richard Locke and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In death, Michael rejoined his parents, parents-in-law Carline and Mary Richardson and sister-in-law Patricia Locke.
