Kevin Maring

The Marshalltown Public Library is hosting a Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 26, from 4-6 p.m. in the large meeting room for Kevin Maring, who worked at the library for more than 18 years. Kevin died suddenly of a heart attack on July 11, 2019.

Kevin and his wife, Katherine Lake, moved to Marshalltown from Mason City in 1991. Kevin worked as a counselor at Westwood and at the Hastings Bookstore. They were both involved in the Marshalltown Community Theater, where Kevin acted and directed in several productions. Kevin started volunteering at the Marshalltown Public Library with homebound (shut-in) book delivery, before he began working part-time as a Library Assistant.

Kevin was well known to library patrons with his kind and welcoming presence. He was the expert on science fiction book recommendations. He also often welcomed children who got their first library card by shaking their hands and saying, “On behalf of the Marshalltown Public Library, let me welcome you to the Marshalltown Public Library. May you only find good things.”

Please stop by between 4-5 p.m. for an open house, or join his friends, library family, his wife, Katherine, and his daughter Rachel Ohlsen, in sharing stories about Kevin and the impact he had on our lives, starting at 5 p.m.

Cards and wishes for his family may be dropped off at the library anytime, or mailed to 105 W. Boone St., Marshalltown, IA 50158. Memorials may be directed to his family members or to the Marshalltown Library.

Starting at $4.38/week.
