Michael (Mike) Ray Brown, 57

Michael (Mike) Ray Brown, 57, of Holiday Lake, Iowa, was called to God on July 30, 2019. He was born November 27, 1961, in Houston, Missouri, to Tom and Merna Brown. Mike grew up in Gladbrook, Iowa, where he attended school, then later joined the Army, where he served from 1980-1982. After returning home, he worked for Baumeier Construction in Gladbrook, then Keeler Steel (Ryerson) in Marshalltown. In 1983, he met Deb, his wife of 27 years. Together they had two boys, Tyson and Heath, whom they raised in Gladbrook.

While the boys were growing up, Mike spent a lot of time at football games and wrestling meets, or anything that had to do with his boys. He was always present in his children’s lives, helping and teaching them to be good men. He loved to hunt and that was an important activity that brought them all together.

That love and compassion didn’t stop with his boys and grew even stronger once his grandchildren were born. That’s when his name changed to Papa. Mike loved his grandchildren so much and did everything he could to make them happy. He taught them to hunt and fish and spoiled them to no end. They were his life and he had a very special bond with each one of them.

Though a long time lot owner, the last few years of his life, Mike was a full time resident at Holiday Lake. Mike loved being on his golf cart and on his tractor, mowing and completing different yard projects. He loved to be outside and being busy and always had a smile when passing other members of the lake community.

Mike was truly a great man whose impact will forever be felt by the family that loves him dearly. His ability to love, sacrifice, provide, support and forgive will forever be lessons to all he knew.

Mike is survived by his ex-wife, Deb; sons, Tyson (Candace), and Heath (Miranda); daughter-in-law, Lonika; grandchildren: Adisyn, Nathaniel, Aidyn, Wyatt, Megan, Levi, Chloe, Asher and Ann; sisters, Lois (Craig), Lynna, Sally (Bob) and Peg (Allen).

Memorial services will be held on August 25 at Kent Chapel, Brooklyn, Iowa, at 11am, followed by a luncheon at the Holiday Lake Community Center.

Starting at $4.38/week.
