George Godfrey, 85

George Godfrey, 85, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on September 7, 2019 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his family at his side.

Funeral services for George will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. George Godfrey was born on July 19, 1934 to parents Glenn and Olga (Anderson) in Osage, Iowa. He attended high school in and graduated in the class of 1953. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served his country. Upon his return from the Army he met and married his wife Mary (Hindman). Together the two raised three beautiful children Missy, Mindy, and Greg. He was a machinist and worked for Fisher Controls in Marshalltown for over 30 years. At one point in time he owned his own gas station before working at Fisher’s.

In his free time, he was a member of bowling leagues in Marshalltown, and the north 3rdavenue Dairy Queen racing team, and the Sharon avenue gang. He loved racing and was a huge fan of NASCAR racing, keeping the stats of the races, bowling, spending time with his family.

Left to remember and cherish his memory are his children Missy Godfrey, Mindy Waldon, and Greg (Carrie) Godfrey; three grandchildren Aaron Thomas, Matthew Waldon, and Emily Waldon; his sister Glenna Lence; sister-in-law Sarah Hindman, Betty (John) Turner, Shirley (Garry) Repp; brother-in-law Larry (Donna) Hindman and Chuck (Betty) Hindman.

In death, George rejoins his beautiful bride Mary; Parents Glenn and Olga; siblings Leland Rucker, Aldene Bower, Kenny Rucker; son-in-law Bill Waldon; mother and father-in law Russell and Doris Hindman; and brother-in-law Jack Hindman, Jim Lence, and Keith Bower.
