Jerome C. Donohue, 86

Jerome C. Donohue, 86, passed away at the Iowa Veteran’s Home on Saturday, September 14th under the care of the Veteran’s home staff and Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, September 21st at St. Francis of Assisi-St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 on Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home. Immediately after the visitation, there will be a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m.

Jerry was born on November 25, 1932, in Forest City, Iowa. He was the son of Marion and Esther Donohue. When Jerry was a young boy, his mother was remarried to Walter Baumgartner who, together with Esther, raised Jerry.

Jerry graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1950. Upon graduation, Jerry proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1951-1953, earning a Purple Heart while in Korea. On May 29th, 1954, Jerry was united in marriage to Marjorie Curphy at St. Boniface Church in Garwin, Iowa. Jerry and Marj lived in Marshallown and LeGrand area. Jerry worked as a draftsman at the Public Development Company (Paul Larson, Inc.) and later at Lennox Industries as a draftsman and a factory engineer.

Left to cherish Jerry’s memory is his wife, Marj; his son Kyle; his grandson Austin the II: and his brothers Mike (Kris) Baumgartner, Jim (Janice) Donohue and Dave (Linda) Donohue.

Jerry was proceeded in death by his parents and a grandson Austin the I.

Jerry and his family will be forever grateful for his ‘family’ at the Iowa Veteran’s Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may directed to the family.
