Marjorie Wilma (Rosedale) Beane, 97

Loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Marjorie Wilma (Rosedale) Beane, 97, of Le Grand, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019.

Born Marjorie Wilma Rosedale on December 6, 1921, at her family’s farm, Cloverdale; she was the daughter of Oliver and Andrea (Roenstad) Rosedale. Marjorie was the 13thchild of 15 children. She graduated from the Le Grand Community School where she was noted for her basketball skills. On the First Team all-four years, her team was the first Le Grand Girls Basketball Team to play in the State Tournament (1938). She was selected for the All County Basketball Team her junior and senior years. Following graduation she attended Central Iowa Business College. She secured secretarial positions at the Farm Bureau, Recorders Office and Driver’s License Department of Marshall County, KFJB Radio Station and then became private secretary for Louis Phelps, Secretary/Treasurer of Grinnell College. She later worked through the Tax Season typing for her brother Alvin’s law practice.

On January 24, 1943, Marjorie married Donald Beane. They had been classmates in Le Grand. Their married life began on Donald’s family farm near Green Mountain and later moved to the Le Grand area to farm the farms of Reba Mills and Leola Twedt. They retired in Le Grand.

Five children were born to them. They are: Barbara (Dale Burkheimer), Linda (Francis Beyea), Charles, Dennis (Kathyrn Wilson) and Donna (James Hoeksema). They have eleven grandchildren: Greg (Charity) Burkheimer, Lauren Beyea, Andrew Beyea, Amanda (Caleb) Stamp, Denise (Mike) Bringmann, Mary (Paul) Halterman, Lydia Hoeksema, Miriam Hoeksema, Caleb (Alyssa) Hoeksema, Arley Beane, Melody (Blane) Anderson. They have ten great grandchildren: Payton Williams, Joshua Stamp, Eliza Stamp, Benjamin Stamp, Alexandria Hoeksema, Henry Anderson, Piper Anderson, Monroe Anderson, Damon Bringmann and Ava Bringmann.

Church was always important to Marjorie. She read her Bible every day. As a child, she was a member of the Stavanger Friends Church. After marriage, she transferred to the Le Grand Friends Church where she taught Sunday School for the Young Married Class and Grade School Girl’s class as well as chaired the Kitchen Committee hosting dinners and receptions for special events. She was a member of the Le Grand ACT Club, Literary and Music Club, USFW, Chapter BB P.E.O. in Marshalltown, Class representative for the Le Grand Alumni Association, Komg Sverre Lodge #482 in Story City and Charter Member of the OWO Club of Green Mountain. Marjorie wrote a book of poetry, composed music for family birthdays, was a wonderful cook and baker and helped in all aspects of farming with her husband. She kept a daily diary starting in her teen years. She and her husband were blessed to travel to all fifty states, numerous European countries, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, St. Thomas, the Bahamas and Russia.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald (2007), son Charles Donald, parents Oliver and Andrea, sisters: Mabel, Irva, Alma, Wyona, Marie, Luwilda, Winnifred, Irene, and Olive, and brothers: Selmer, Alvin, Truman Oliver and Truman Sigbjorn.

Special surviving sisters include: Anna McDonough (Port Charlotte, Florida) and sister-in-law Betty Rosedale (Marshalltown) as well as special family friend Margaret Moser.

A memorial fund is being established for condolences.

Memorial services celebrating Marjorie’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 21st, at the LeGrand Friends Church with her son-in-law Rev. Francis Beyea and Pastor Alan Mullikin of LeGrand Friends Church leading. She will be laid to rest in the LeGrand Friends Cemetery.
