Reese L. Gibbs, 89
Reese L. Gibbs died November 5, 2019, in Loveland, Colorado at the age of 89. Reese was born in Strawberry Point, Iowa, to Rae and Erma Gibbs. He graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1951, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Admin and Biology. Reese went on to earn a Master’s degree from the University of Iowa in Office Management and Business Education in 1953. Reese served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict in both enlisted and civilian positions (Fort Riley and Fort Leonard Wood).
In 1956, Reese married Marian (Buhr) and lived in the Iowa communities of Strawberry Point and Waverly before coming to Marshalltown in 1967.
Reese was the Business Manager and Secretary to the Board of Education for the Marshalltown School District for 23 years. After retiring from the school district he worked for Koehler Insurance and later Shomo Insurance for another 24 years. An active community leader, Reese served relentlessly, including; United Way, Chamber of Commerce Board, Rotary Club, Marshalltown Hospital Board, Emergency Food Box, Library Board, Nursing Education Foundation, Center Associates (Mental Health) Board, Blue Cross of Iowa & South Dakota Board and Hospice. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 51 years before moving to Colorado.
Reese is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marian; son Kevin (Kathy) and daughter Kim. He is also survived by brother Arnold, sister Barbara (Thom) Borchert and sisters-in-law Shirley Gibbs, Norma Juhl, Stella Dillemuth and Carol Snyder, the extended family of his three siblings and Reese & Marian’s adopted family of Kris and David Saggau.
Reese is predeceased by his parents and brother Wayne.
