Rose Shine, 92, of Conrad, IA, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, IA. Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the Conrad United Methodist Church in Conrad, with Rev. Gerry Kahler officiating. A memorial visitation and luncheon will follow from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the Conrad American Legion in Conrad. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Red Cross. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Conrad Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes. Rose Bogard was born June 12, 1927, to Ira and Essie (Husted) Bogard in Osceola, IA. She was a graduate of Marshalltown High School and attended the Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. Rose received her BA from Wartburg College of Nursing in 1968. She was united in marriage to Harlan E. Shine on September 14, 1948, at the First Methodist Church in Marshalltown. They moved to the farm in rural Conrad from Grinnell in 1958. Rose stayed on the farm until moving to Conrad in 1996, where she resided until her passing. She was a nurse at Des Moines General Hospital from 1948 to 1960, an instructor at Marshalltown Community School of Nursing from 1960 to 1986, was in the Peace Corp in St. Vincent from 1986 to 1989, and worked for the Dept. of Inspection and Appeals. Rose was a member of the Conrad United Methodist Church, past president of the Legion Auxiliary and was a volunteer at the Conrad Public Library and BCLUW Schools. She was very active with the Red Cross and served on many disaster relief teams all over the country, including the World Trade Center bombing.

Rose is survived by her son, Greg (Brenda) Shine, of Conrad; her daughter-in-law, Roberta Shine, of Oakland, FL; four grandchildren: Nicole (Larry) Critchfield, of Conrad, Dan (Manda) Shine, of Conrad, Christina (Dave) Larue, of Winter Park, FL, Emily (Ben) David, of Tampa, FL; seven great grandchildren: Lacy, Dalton and Cameron Critchfield, Sadie and Gemma Shine, Ava and Jack Larue; sister Dee (Gail) Bogard, of Shalotte, NC; sister Judy Wasco, of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan; her son, Gary; four brothers and one sister.
