Michael Lloyd Thede, 67

Michael Lloyd Thede passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at the age of 67.

Mike was born on July 8, 1952, in Marshalltown, IA, to Christian Ellsworth (Spud) and Wanda (Hofer) Thede. He graduated from North Tama County Community High School in May 1970. He was a loyal and hard worker. He worked for several years at local factories including the Tama Meat Packing Plant, Certainteed and eventually retired from Lennox. On June 19, 1982, he married the love of his life Cynthia Lee Wilson. They raised their daughter, Gwendy, together in Tama.

Mike was a man who enjoyed the country and the simplicity of life. He loved his family and friends, enjoyed a good home cooked meal, horses and old cars. Nothing brought him more joy than sitting on his front porch watching the hummingbirds and drinking a cup of coffee. He is known to be a humble and honest man with a great sense of humor. Most recently he spent his days “working at his job” with Tim and his buddies at Blocker’s Autobody and Repair.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Gwendy (Mark) Doland; sisters Connie Armstrong and Sheryl (Terry) Dvorak; grandchildren, Anna and Anthony Babberl, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Thede; father, Christian Thede; his mother, Wanda (Hofer) Thede; brother, Jerry Thede; sisters, Bonnie Thede and Waneta Mae (Thede) Morgan; and son-in-law, Todd Babberl.

Memorials may be sent to the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown, 1921 Taylor Avenue, Marshalltown, IA, 50158 or Hope After Racing Thoroughbreds (HART), 1 Prairie Meadows Drive, Altoona, IA, 50009.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2020, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, 1209 Iowa Avenue W, Marshalltown at 10:30am.
