James Theodore Conaway, 72

James Theodore Conaway, 72, of Marshalltown, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, October 9, 2020. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites have been given. Jim’s family will be conducting a Celebration of Life from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 18th at 809 East State Street in Marshalltown. One of five children, Jim was born in Marshalltown on August 28th, 1948, to Earl and Irene (Halverson) Conaway. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1966. He was united in marriage to Victoria (Gall) Wilson in 1966 and they were blessed with three children: Jimmy, Jefferey and Ivan. Following their divorce, Jim married Carolyn (Dunn) Burke in 1995. Following Carolyn’s death, he married Mary Kaye Fitch in 2007. She also later passed away. Jim had been employed as a conductor and yardman for the railroad. He retired after 35 years of dedicated service. Jim enjoyed riding his motorcycle, golfing (both online and at Collison’s), working around his yard, working on anything and everything in his garage, he also had a passion for boating and water skiing, foosball and spending hours talking to his friends and family.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Jefferey (AJ) Conaway and Ivan (Stefanie) Conaway; his grandchildren: Andrew, Joseph and Amy Stineman, Mckayla (Brock), Dakota, Zachary (Brook), Jefferey Jr., Baby Ivan and AndeeJean Conaway, Jordin (Kale) Nuehring and Harley (Sarina) Wood; his great grandchildren: Otto Stineman, Kaycen Orf, Cameryn Nuehring and Devin Wood; his sisters Karole and Kate. His uncle Bob Funke and his beloved dog, Athena.

He was preceded in death by all three loves of his life, Victoria Wilson, Carolyn Conaway and Mary Kaye Fitch; his son, Jimmy Lee Conaway; his sister, Karlene Piper and his brother, Bud “Kerry” Conaway. His aunt Peggy Funke and uncle Wayne “Jiggs” Conaway.
