Darrell D. DeWitt, 89

Darrell D. DeWitt, 89, of Belleville, Illinois, born Feb. 11, 1931, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, at his home. Darrell was born and raised in Central Iowa with the New Providence, Clemons and Union area being where he lived as a young child. His family later moved to Laurel.

Darrell was a retired CMSgt. from the USAF and also retired from Vi-Jan Laboratories, Inc. where he worked as the manager of Warehousing Operations. Darrell had a very distinguished military career having literally lived around the world. He played a key role in our war times and in peace times. Standards are in place today because of him. He will always be known as “Chief” by those who knew his work.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur J. DeWitt, Sr. and Isal Mae (Hamilton) DeWitt, and by his wife, Nancy E. (Nishimura) DeWitt whom he married in Tokyo, Japan, and who died Dec. 16, 2018. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Arthur J. DeWitt, Jr., of Marshalltown, who died on May 15, 2018, as well as siblings, James “Seymor,” Margaret, Wadena, Everett and Alta.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Moore (Polock); grandchildren, Chris Siltz and Katherine Moore who is currently serving in the military in Germany; sister-in-law, Beverly DeWitt; nieces, nephews and his many friends and acquaintances at Sax Speedi Chek in Mascoutah, near his home.

There was a private graveside service in Mascoutah City Cemetery with military honors.
