James W. Cummings, 72

James W Cummings “Jim”, 72 of Windsor, CO, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on January 14th, 2021 at MacKenzie Place in Fort Collins, CO after a 3-year battle with Vascular Dementia.

Jim was born June 26th, 1948 to Robert and Pauline Cummings in Marshalltown, IA. He was an avid member of the BSA and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1966, Jim joined the US Marine Corps in 1967. Based in Camp Pendleton, CA, he earned the rank of Sergeant, decorated with a National Defense Service Medal and the Meritorious Mast Award. He served as an Air Control Electronics Operator, Manual System and was honorably discharged after 3 years of service. He then continued his education at William Penn University and earned 2 degrees in Economics and Business. While raising his family in State Center, IA, he worked for Marshalltown Instruments and Dunham-Bush. Then, in 1992, Jim and his family moved to Windsor, CO, where he later retired from Walmart Distribution in 2016.

Jim’s great loves were his family, riding his Harley, hunting, fishing, hiking, Tang Soo Do and helping anyone in need. He was an active member of the American Legion, where he assisted with Memorial Day services and other events throughout his life.

Jim is survived by his two brothers Terry (Dianne) of Marshalltown, IA and Dave of Marion, IA, sons Sean of Fort Collins, CO and Justin (Kristina) of Loveland, CO and his granddaughter Avery of Fort Collins, CO. A celebration of life service to be held in Colorado will be announced at a later date.
