Wayne was born on March 15, 1936, in Marshalltown, Iowa to Herbert L. and Hazel (Tychsen) Sloppy. Wayne graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1954 and married Beverly J. Reiss on September 18, 1955. Wayne went into the United States Air Force in 1954 and later came back to Marshalltown where he farmed and worked at Fisher Controls. The couple made their home in rural Marshalltown, Iowa.

Wayne enjoyed his farm and his land and loved to be outside. Wayne also made sure that the Class of 1954 was kept informed of Marshalltown news and was a beloved member of the class.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly; his sister, Alene Seim (Ames, IA); and three children, Lynn (Doug) Schroeder (Carroll, IA), Eric Sloppy Sr., and Mark (Stacey) Sloppy (Marshalltown, IA); along with five grandchildren: Matt (Mathew) Charlton-Nidey, Brandon (Lauren) Charlton, Alexa Schroeder, Eric Sloppy Jr., and Megan Sloppy. Wayne is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Floyd and Margaret Reiss; sisters Edna Kirse and Avonelle Studts; and sister-in-law Barbara Welsh.

Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Wayne and his family. A private memorial will take place at a later date.
