Helen L. Knoll, 89

Helen L. Knoll, 89, resident of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the Iowa River Hospice Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen will take place on Wednesday, July 7 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish – St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, July 6 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born Helen Louise Svendsen on February 1, 1932 in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Harry and Rose (Ingledue) Svendsen. After graduating from Green Mountain High School, Helen went on to receive her Associates degree in business.

On June 12, 1954 she was united in marriage to Clyde Knoll at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Together they made their home in Marshalltown, where they raised their four children. In addition to being an excellent homemaker, Helen worked outside of the home as an administrative assistant at several businesses over her career. She retired from Wolfe Eye Clinic in 1994.

A faithful woman, Helen was an active member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She had many hobbies, including boating, water skiing, golfing, water aerobics at the YMCA, stained-glass work and reading. She also enjoyed sewing matching outfits for her children when they were young. Helen and Clyde loved to travel together, and in retirement, they spent winters in Alabama.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Pam (Jeff) Hoffman of Conrad, Cindy (Randy) Vaughn of Marshalltown and Mike (Robin) Knoll of Mitchellville; her grandchildren: Michelle (Keith) Koehn, Chris (Greta) Ainsworth, Matt (Stephanie) Ainsworth, Kaelee Knoll and Jacob Knoll; and great-grandchildren: Tate and Kaymie Koehn and Lucy and Cora Ainsworth.

In addition to her beloved husband, Clyde, Helen is reunited in death with her daughter, Lorna Knoll; her parents, Harry and Rose Svendsen; son-in-law, Rick Ainsworth; her sister, Doris Svendsen and her brothers: Jim and Dick Svendsen.
