Marlin “Moe” Moeller, 94, of Beaman, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at his residence in Beaman. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2022, at the Beaman United Methodist Church. A visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the Conrad Chapel of Anderson Funeral Homes. Marlin John Moeller was born to Henry John Moeller and Freida Bechtum Moeller on October 16, 1928,+ at the family farm in rural Beaman, Iowa. He attended Beaman and Gladbrook Schools, graduating from Gladbrook High School, where he was captain of the football and basketball teams. He was a walk-on football player at Iowa State University, becoming a standout on the freshman squad.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed near Anchorage, Alaska. On June 21, 1953, he married Phyllis F. Hooper in Gladbrook, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Mona Moeller Barfels, of Peoria, Arizona, Mark Moeller, of Polk City, Iowa, and Matt Moeller, of Brighton, Colorado. He was a rural mail carrier out of Beaman and Conrad, Iowa, for 40 years, where his customers could set their watch to their delivery. He also farmed the family farm for 40 years.
Moe, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a 50-year member of the Beaman United Methodist Church and Commander of the Beaman American Legion, completing a service member plaque from the Korean Conflict to present day. He was also a member of the Lions Club, Beaman Volunteer Fire Department, Grundy County Sheriff’s Reserve and served on the Beaman Town Council.
He loved to spend time with family and friends, spending 30 summers at their home at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, where he enjoyed fishing and, on a good day, a fish fry. He loved to travel and spent 25 winters at their home in Mesa, Arizona, where he joined in musical jam session, playing his harmonica.
Moe will be missed by his wife of 69 years, Phyllis, daughter Mona, son-in-law Jeff, son Mark, son Matt and daughter-in-law Dyan. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren: Samantha, Mara, Mallory, Alyssa, Luke and Mitch as well as sisters-in-law: Maxine Schoel, Doris Chabel, Clara Jean Hooper, a brother-in-law, George Hooper along with numerous nieces, nephews and many friends in Iowa, Missouri and Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Loren and Lyle Moeller, sister Margaret Moeller, nephews Ron Moeller, Rob Chabel, Jon Moeller and Loren Moeller, Jr.
