Iowa DOT grant used at MCC

I recently attended a presentation on the Iowa Valley bond referendum at my Matins Kiwanis Club meeting. I appreciated the information shared and more importantly, I appreciated receiving more information about where the college received its funding last year to widen the north entranceway leading into the Marshalltown Community College campus.

Even though Iowa Valley is pursuing a bond referendum to seek local funds which will address critical needs that other sources of funds cannot pay for, the college took a proactive approach and applied for an Iowa Department of Transportation grant which provides community colleges state funding, not local funding, to make improvements on roads on their campuses that have access to state roads. Even though the grant funding provided the college a limited amount of state funds which could only be used for road repairs, it did not address all of their infrastructure needs. I was impressed that the college took steps to pursue the limited source of grant funding.
