Column missed the mark on socialism

The editorial published on March 3, “Socialists don’t understand business,” by Laura Hollis was a trivial and tired diatribe aimed at scaring right-wing leaning folks into fearing Bernie Sanders because of the word, socialism.

Her audience does not understand the distinctions between socialism, communism or totalitarianism. Our great capitalistic society would not exist without the many social (socialism) programs we have created and value. And to be sure, even though Bernie has some grand ideas, they cannot be implemented without the consent of the congress and the corporate wisdom or lack of wisdom of our elected representatives.

Our community suffers because our elected representatives, mostly republican, do nothing to promote available health care or address the drug problem. They continually try to get public education, both pre and post secondary at fire-sale prices.
