Tips for voting in local elections

Nov. 2 is Election Day where we have the opportunity to vote for school board candidates and city officials. Local elections are important! I urge you to vote in this election. Some things you should know:

• Early voting is reduced to just 20 days.

• The last day to request an absentee ballot is Oct. 18 and you need to be registered by that date.

• Polls will close at 8 p.m. and any ballot received after that time will not be counted, so be sure to mail in plenty of time or drop off the request at the county auditor’s office, which by the way, there will only be one drop box in the county.

• If you have missed voting in one election, your name might have been moved to inactive so you might want to check if you are still registered. Contact the auditor’s office, 641-754-6323, if you have any questions.

Remember, voting is your right and your duty.
