On Tuesday Nov. 8, voters in Marshall County will go to the polls to cast their ballot in the midterm elections. In Marshall County, there are two candidates running for the office of County Attorney.

Sarah Tupper has been in a prosecutorial role for over 20 years in Mahaska, Dallas and now Marshall County. In 2011 Sarah began her duties with the Marshall County Attorney’s office prosecuting Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Cases.

Sarah is a knowledgeable and dedicated public servant, who believes in the rule of law. Sarah is a strong advocate for the protection and safety of victims of crime, and in supporting law enforcement at all levels. Sarah is her own person, who’s integrity and values are not in question.

Before my retirement in 2018 from the Marshalltown Police Department, I had many occasions to work alongside Sarah. I appreciated her willingness to avail herself to our officers day or night when they had questions on cases they were investigating.

Sarah works tirelessly to prepare herself for trial. She is compassionate and empathetic and these traits help to provide a source of trust and reassurance to crime victims as they prepare to go through various court proceedings. Sarah recognizes and supports the need for programs like Drug Court and Mental Health court.

Sarah, during her career, has been able to learn from and be mentored by three separate County Attorneys. The information Sarah gained by watching and evaluating their differing managerial styles, as well as her own vast knowledge, will help Sarah be able to create a resourceful and progressive agency that Marshall County can be proud of.

We ask our community leaders to be involved. Sarah does exactly this. Sarah serves on several community boards and committees. Sarah also gives her time and expertise by teaching classes at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and provides inservice training to local departments to help better prepare our law enforcement officers.

Sarah Tupper has all the qualities the citizens of Marshall County expect from an elected official. But more than that. Sarah has all the qualities of a proven, compassionate and trusted advocate for the people she serves.
