PREP FOOTBALL: Royals run rampant for fifth straight win

GARDEN GROVE - Brandyn Niemeyer had a hand in five first-half touchdowns as the Colo-NESCO football team rattled off its fifth consecutive victory, a 73-14 rout of Mormon Trail (1-5, 0-4) in Friday's 8-man District 6 game.

Niemeyer carried 11 times for 147 yards and touchdown runs of 25, 8 and 57 yards. He also threw two second-quarter TD passes, one to Taylor Hill and the other to Casy Angell.

Adam Lytle added 96 yards rushing and three touchdown runs.

Tyler Erickson and Hill both added scoring runs for the Royals (5-2, 3-1), who rushed for 289 yards in the game. Alex Griffin led the receivers with three catches for 49 yards, and also had a fumble recovery on defense. Lytle and Niemeyer both had a team-high seven tackles and Erickson had an interception.

The Royals play their final home game of the regular season this Friday, hosting second-ranked Murray.

Gilbert 37, East Marshall 14

GILBERT - Gilbert quarterback Jordan Knock rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns as the Tigers earned their first Class 2A District 7 win Friday over East Marshall (3-4, 1-1).

Gilbert (2-3, 1-2) also got 70 yards and a score from Christopher Culek as the Tigers compiled 396 yards of total offense - 330 of it on the ground. Jared Gescheidler added 70 yards rushing, 10 receiving and two touchdowns.

East Marshall hosts West Marshall next Friday in Le Grand. No statistics were reported for the Mustangs.
