Sodders’ awards, endorsements indicative of his work

It's really easy to be disgusted with legislators. It seems they leave on vacation before their work is done, vote themselves raises and quarrel a lot so little gets done.

Therefore, it is heartening and renews one's faith in government when a legislator comes along who works hard and gets things done. It's also good to know that a legislator's record has been so positive that he is endorsed by many and varied groups.

Only two legislators were given the Hoover award for outstanding community service, and Senator Steve Sodders was one of them. As a policeman his undercover work in the war on drugs won him a commendation. He is endorsed by Alliant Energy, the Association of Business and Industry, the Corn Growers, the Community College, the Law Enforcement League, professional firefighters, Marshalltown Education Association, the Pork Producers, Agri Business, Meredith Corporation employees, ABATE, Rural Electric Co-ops and Independent Insurance Agencies. Senator Sodders has won these groups approval because of his work.

He has also been honored with awards by the youth shelter services, a Community Action award and the MEA award.

The awards and endorsements are indicative of his work. However, even more importantly, Senator Sodders gets things done because he can work with Republican legislators and Governor Branstad. He is a moderate and a team player which is not often true of Tea Party candidates.

Sometimes a legislator comes along - perhaps a Republican or perhaps a Democrat- who simply does the right thing for people and does it well. Those are the legislators, regardless of party, that we need to keep on the job. When we are fortunate to have such a legislator in Senator Sodders, we need to hire him again with our votes.
