Police find brass knuckles on local man

A pair of Marshalltown Police officers charged a local man with carrying weapons after discovering a pair of brass knuckles tucked into his pants Saturday night.

Tyler Walz, 18, was allegedly meandering the parking lot of the Midnight Ballroom, 1712 S. Center St. during a mixed martial arts event, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

When the officers approached him, Walz allegedly said he could not find his car. The officers asked if they could search him for contraband. That search allegedly revealed a pair of silver brass knuckles on his person.

Carrying weapons is an aggravated misdemeanor.

Incidents

On Sunday, Frank Dennis Davenport, 619 W. Nevada St., reported brick damage to the hood and windshield on a 2008 Mercury Sable while parked at his residence. Estimated value of damage was $900.

On Sunday, Ricardo Tavera-Balderas, 111 N. 5th St., reported rock damage to a driver side window on a 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse while parked at his residence. Estimated value of damage was $350.

On Sunday, Juana Alcantar, 703 Ratcliffe Dr., reported puncture damage to two tires on a 2013 Pontiac Grand Am and two tires on a 2013 Lincoln Navigator both while parked at her residence. Estimated value of damage was $600 and $300 respectively.

On Saturday, an employee with Pizza Ranch, 2305 S. Center St., reported the theft of cash in the amount of $146.28.

On Saturday, Jonathan Yepez, 504 W. Church St. Apt. #3, reported the theft of a 42 inch RCA plasma TV from his residence. Estimated value of loss was $379.

On Friday, Daniel Brian Perry, 604 N. 2nd Ave., reported the possible theft of a dog from his residence valued at $200. The dog was recovered at the Animal Rescue League.

On Wednesday, an employee with Walmart, 2802 S. Center St., reported the theft of merchandise in the amount of $101.43.

Arrests

On Sunday, Harrison Tyler Wentzien, of Lincoln, was arrested for operating while intoxicated-second offense.

On Sunday, Pudoli Mendoza Gonzalez, 2015 Skyline Dr., was arrested for interference with official acts and disorderly conduct.

On Saturday, Tyler Dale Walz, of Tama, was arrested for carrying weapons.

On Saturday, Mark Allen Kuhlers, 207 S. 16th Ave., was arrested for two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana and operating while intoxicated-second offense.

On Friday, Kara Ann Isenhower, of Eldora, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Friday, Michael James Grandstaff, 533 N. 3rd St., was arrested for driving while revoked.

On Friday, Nick Logan Davis, of Laurel, was arrested for credit card fraud and theft-fifth degree from vehicles.

On Dec. 3, Lester Kwendo Mwirichia, 106 College Dr. #1207, was arrested for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Accidents

On Friday, an as yet unknown driver of a Pontiac Grand Am was northbound on Ninth Street and attempted a right turn onto West Linn Street turning wide and striking the street sign located on the terrace on the northeast corner and continued east on West Linn. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Grand Am was estimated at $1,500 while the street sign owned by the City of Marshalltown received an estimated $500 in damage.

On Thursday, a car driven by Kevin Jacob Morton, 9 S. 6th St., was westbound on West Madison Street approaching the intersection with South Third Street when it failed to stop and entered the intersection colliding with a vehicle driven by Lorili Lynne Tuttle, of State Center, which was traveling north on Third Street. No injuries were reported. Morton was cited for failure to stop within a clear assured distance. Damage to the Morton car was estimated at $750 while the Tuttle vehicle received an estimated $2,000 in damage.

On Thursday, a car driven by Brenda Joyce Sanchez, 306 S. 9th St. Apt. #1, and a pickup driven by David Paul Halvorsen, 405 W. Merle Hibbs Boulevard, entered the intersection of East Anson Street and South First Avenue with both drivers saying they had a green light and collided. No injuries were reported. Sanchez was cited for no insurance and driving under suspension. Damage to the Sanchez car was estimated at $1,000 while the Halvorsen pickup received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

On Thursday, a minivan driven by David Allen Babinat, 309 N. 1st St., was eastbound on Iowa Avenue attempting to turn left into La Carreta's parking lot when it collided with a car driven by Timothy Lynn Winkel, of Urbandale, which was traveling west on Iowa Avenue. Passenger Omeka La Shonne Elder, 309 N. 1st St. Apt. #1, was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with possible injuries. Babinat was cited for failure to yield upon left turn. Damage to the Babinat minivan was estimated at $3,200 while the Winkel car received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

On Wednesday, a pickup driven by Levi David Phillips, 2620 Ridge Rd., was northbound on South Center Street approaching the light at Westwood Drive when it collided with the rear of a car driven by Alicia Marie Harrison, 3311 E. Main St. Rd., which was just starting from a stopped position due to a light change. No injuries were reported. Phillips was cited for failure to stop within a clear assured distance. Damage to the Phillips pickup was estimated at $500 while the Harrison car received an estimated $10,000 in damage.

On Wednesday, a minivan driven by Richard Henry Glass, 1611 Reed Ave., was at Walgreen's drive-up window, dropped an object on the ground, opened his door to pick it up, fell out of the vehicle and the vehicle continue forward and struck the concrete wall. Glass was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with possible injuries. Damage to the Glass minivan was estimated at $1,00

Shawn Edward Christy, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a violation of probation charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The probation revocation hearing is set for 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 7. Bond was set at $5,000 cash only.

Timmy Sizemore, of State Center, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 28. Sizemore was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Gilbert Lee Brown, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a open container charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $200 with a $70 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $335, due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Jan. 7 until the debt is completed.

Chum Zel, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Jan. 7 until the debt is completed.

Arriel Roe, 622 Garland Dr., made an initial appearance on a identity theft charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 28. Roe was released through the Department of Correctional Services and is to contact them within 24 hours and sign a pre-trial release form. The court ordered that Roe be photographed and fingerprinted at the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an alarm system activation-no fire-unintentional at 1301 Summit St., an extrication of victims at 300 Iowa Avenue East and nine medical assists with the EMS crew to: 3202 S. 12th St., 2510 S. 6th St., 1720 S. Center St., 312 E. Main St., 309 W. Merle Hibbs Boulevard, 3202 S. 12th St., 1314 Summit St., 503 E. Linn St., and 208 W. Grant St.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a good intent call to 806 W. Nevada St., an extrication of victims at 3100 Reed Ave., and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 304 W. Southridge Rd., 125 S. 11th St., 503 E. Linn St., 1408 Woodbury St., and 1110 E. Anson St.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a good intent call to 301 Friendly Dr., a carbon monoxide incident at 608 N. 2nd Ave., and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 514 E. Olive St., 705 W. Iowa Ave., 206 N. 18th St., 545 N. 3rd St., 3202 S. 12th St., and 710 S. 12th St.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a chimney or flue fire-confined to chimney at 2406 New Salem Rd., a dispatched-cancelled en route to 305 N. 4th St., and eight medical assists with the EMS crew to: 303 W. Nevada St., 1010 W. Lincolnway, 809 S. 7th Ave., 109 W. Southridge Rd., 2209 S. Dubois Circle, 3202 S. 12th St., 211 W. Church St., and 209 W. Church St.
